In today’s Lucky to Be Here, we start in Indonesia and make the world our playground with Mutiara Alam.
Mutiara Alam is a certified coach and global educator who equips students and professionals to become visionary leaders through immersive global experiences and transformative coaching. Her methodology blends practical leadership training with deep cultural intelligence, translating potential into purposeful impact.
Throughout our conversation, we explore Mutiara’s journey of self-discovery throughout international experiences. She discusses the challenges and obstacles she faced, particularly in navigating bureaucracy and cultural differences, and what helped her keep going. She emphasizes the importance of curiosity, resilience, and the sense of worthiness that comes from embracing change. Mutiara also reflects on her homecoming and the new relationship she has developed with her hometown, as well as her initiative, Berani Penasaran (Courageously Curious), aimed at promoting experiential learning across countries. She shares practical advice for those pursuing a global focus in their careers. One thing you should know about Mutiara is that she is a true fan of BTS, and she shares two songs she recommends, including why they mean so much to her: Magic Shop and Mikrokosmos.
I deeply appreciated this conversation with Mutiara because I see her embodying some of the most transformative aspects of what our experiences as international students and workers can offer. One of the most impactful insights she shared during our conversation is something most of us struggle with embracing at different points in our lives: “I am worthy just because.”

This is the second iteration of our collaboration with Rakhel Milstein, founder of Milstein Law Group, focused on providing career coaching advice and education on immigration based on participants questions. In our first session, we covered essential distinctions between H-1B and O1 visas, regulations about J-1 and F-1 visas, and questions regarding parameters for EB1 and EB2 NIW filings.

A Sip of Joy
You hear me a lot referring to joy and the need to connect with ourselves as part of any career development process. So this is my sip of joy, where I am sharing what I am reading, watching, doing these days. I hope this sparks an idea or two of your own!
Today, I share a show on Netflix.
Show: Old dog, new tricks (Animal in Spanish). This show spoke to my heart. It is filmed in Galicia, the Spanish region all my grandparents come from, and it has gorgeous photography of the landscapes, and what to me has felt a very familiar culture and vibe, especially embodied in the main character, Anton. If you are practicing Spanish, this is not the show for it, since they speak Gallego rather than Spanish. But it is a very sweet show that made me feel at home. I hope you enjoy it too!
